The midrange smartphone market in India is heating up in 2025, with brands launching new devices every month in this category to lure buyers. Along similar lines, Vivo has now unveiled the Y400 Pro smartphone this week, which is touted as the slimmest smartphone in its segment to feature a 3D curved display, and offers competitive hardware. Similarly, Oppo introduced the F29 Pro this year with similar specifications, and like the Vivo Y400, is priced in a similar price range.

Therefore, if you are looking to buy a smartphone under Rs 30,000 in India right now, you might be confused between these two devices. Hence, we compare the Vivo Y400 and the Oppo F29 Pro extensively in different aspects to learn which one is better.

Vivo Y400 Pro vs Oppo F29 Pro: Design and display

The Vivo Y400 Pro comes with a 6.78-inch Full HD+ AMOLED panel offering a 120Hz refresh rate and a local peak brightness of 4500 nits. It is claimed to be the slimmest smartphone featuring a 3D curved display, with a slim profile of 7.49mm, and the smartphone weighs 182 grams. The handset has an IP65-rated dust and water-resistant build.

On the other hand, the Oppo F29 Pro comes with a slightly smaller 6.7-inch Full-HD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. However, unlike the Y400 Pro, it is a flat panel, and the phone is claimed to meet IP66, IP68, and IP69 dust and water-resistant certification for better protection against dust and water splashes. It also has a lower weight, weighing in at 180 grams. Both smartphones are also MIL-STD-810H certified.

Vivo Y400 Pro vs Oppo F29 Pro: Performance

In terms of performance, the Vivo Y400 Pro is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 7300 chipset and offers 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 onboard storage. The handset ships with Android 15-based FuntouchOS 15, and is promised 3 years of Android OS updates and 4 years of security patches.

The Oppo F29 Pro is also powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 7300 Energy SoC. However, it comes with a higher 12GB of LPDDR4X RAM support alongside the base 8GB RAM option. It also offers a faster UFS 3.1 onboard storage. The device also runs Android 15, with a ColorOS 15.0 skin on top. However, it only supports 2 years of OS and 3 years of security patch upgrades.

Vivo Y400 Pro vs Oppo F29 Pro: Camera

In terms of optics, both smartphones are nearly identical, as they come with a 50MP primary camera and a 2MP depth sensor. However, the Y400 Pro comes with a higher resolution 32MP front camera, compared to the 16MP sensor on the Oppo F29 Pro. Both devices also offer up to 4K recording from both the back and front lenses, and support HDR.

Vivo Y400 Pro vs Oppo F29 Pro: Battery

The Vivo Y400 Pro comes with a 5,500 mAh battery with support for 90W fast charging. It also supports reverse wired charging. Meanwhile, the Oppo F29 Pro comes with a bigger 6,000 mAh battery supporting 80W charging speeds. However, neither smartphone comes with wireless charging support, which is expected in this price range.

Vivo Y400 Pro vs Oppo F29 Pro: Verdict

At a starting price of Rs 24,999, the Vivo Y400 Pro is a compelling offering for users who want a sleek all-rounder smartphone with decent cameras and performance. It also comes with up to four years of software support, making it suitable for long-term users.

However, at a slightly higher cost, the Oppo F29 Pro with a starting price of Rs 27,999 offers a bigger 6,000 mAh battery and better durability. Therefore, if you are seeking a stylish smartphone with curved edges, the Vivo Y400 Pro makes much more sense; otherwise, for buyers who require longer endurance, the Oppo F29 Pro would be the better buy.
