Indian techie fired after AI-written code causes production crash, Reddit post goes viral

A Reddit post about an Indian developer getting fired after a coding mistake has struck a chord online, not just for what went wrong, but how it happened.

The post, shared by a colleague, describes a young developer who was still finding his footing at work. He had no internship experience and was initially given comfortable timelines. During this phase, he wrote code on his own and things were going smoothly.

But that did not last long.

As deadlines got tighter, the pressure started building. To keep up, the developer began using AI tools to generate code faster. At first, it seemed to help. Work was getting done on time, and things looked under control.

Then came the night everything broke.

Around 11 pm, the team got a Slack call saying something had gone wrong in production. The system had stalled, and no one knew why. What followed was a long and frustrating attempt to figure out what had caused the issue.

The team spent the entire next day digging through the code. Eventually, they traced the problem back to changes made by the developer. According to the post, some of this code had been generated using AI tools earlier and later merged after being reviewed with the help of AI.

That made things worse. The code was not easy to read or track, and finding the exact issue took time.

By the time the bug was fixed, the damage had already been done.

The developer was fired soon after. The post mentions that this was his second time causing a bug in production, which likely influenced the decision.

The story quickly picked up attention on social media, where users had strong opinions. Some felt the developer should have been more careful, especially while using AI tools. Others argued that the situation was not entirely his fault.

Several users pointed out that the manager who approved the code and the team responsible for reviewing it should also share responsibility. One comment called the company “toxic” for firing a junior employee over a mistake, while another said this looked like a case of someone being made a scapegoat.

What makes the story stand out is how common the situation feels. Tight deadlines, growing reliance on AI tools, and pressure to deliver quickly are realities for many developers today.

In this case, a mix of all three ended in a late-night crash and a job lost the next day.
