UPI Lite X is an offline payment solution introduced by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI). It enables users to send and receive money without internet access, making it useful in low-connectivity areas such as flights, basements, and remote locations.
The feature operates through Near Field Communication (NFC) and allows transactions up to Rs 500 per transaction. While it supports multiple payments, users must come online within four days to sync transaction records.
How to make payments when UPI services are downIf UPI services are unavailable, users can still make payments through UPI Lite X by following these steps:
1. Open the UPI app on your device.
2. Select “Tap & Pay” within the app.
3. Enter the amount to be transferred.
4. Tap your phone on the recipient’s device (both must have NFC enabled).
5. The transaction completes instantly, without needing a UPI PIN or internet connection.
Do note that the sender and the receiver must have UPI Lite X enabled for offline payments to work.
Devices supportedCurrently, UPI Lite X is available only on Android devices with NFC functionality. Support for iOS has not been announced.
Managing UPI Lite X balance• Before switching devices or reinstalling a UPI app, users must disable UPI Lite X to reclaim their balance in real-time.
• If a device is lost, stolen, or changed, users must contact their issuing bank to disable the feature and get their balance refunded.
