The Gemini app is fairly capable even on its free tier, but subscribing to Google AI Pro changes the experience in meaningful ways. The $19.99 per month plan is designed for users who rely on Gemini regularly and want access to Google’s most advanced models, higher limits, and deeper personalisation without constantly running into caps.
All Gemini users get general access to the Fast model, known as Gemini 3 Flash, which is optimised for quick responses. There is also access to the Thinking version of Gemini 3 Flash, which spends more time reasoning through complex prompts. Free users are limited to basic access here, with daily limits that can change frequently. The Pro model, Gemini 3 Pro, goes a step further by thinking longer and handling advanced maths and coding tasks, but free users only get a small number of prompts within a 24-hour window.
Google AI Pro removes much of this friction. Subscribers get 300 Thinking prompts per day and 100 Pro prompts, which is more than enough for non-professional but intensive use. Earlier, Google combined the limits for Thinking and Pro, but these were split in January, making the subscription more predictable for power users.
One of the most important upgrades is the context window. The context window defines how much information Gemini can process at once when reading text, code, audio, or video. Free accounts are capped at 32,000 tokens, roughly equivalent to 50 pages of text. AI Pro increases this to 1 million tokens, which translates to about 1,500 pages of text or nearly 30,000 lines of code. This has a direct impact on how useful Gemini can be for long documents, research, and large codebases.
File uploads are also far more flexible with a subscription. Free users can upload videos up to five minutes long, while AI Pro extends that limit to one hour. Audio uploads increase from 10 minutes to three hours. Uploading and analysing code is restricted on the free tier but unlocked with AI Pro. Free users are also subject to rolling upload limits that temporarily block analysis once a threshold is reached, something subscribers are far less likely to encounter.
Personal Intelligence is another area where AI Pro stands out. All users can set custom instructions for Gemini, such as asking for TL;DR summaries or cost breakdowns in travel planning. Subscribers, however, gain access to a setting that allows Gemini to learn from past chats, helping it better understand long-term goals and preferences across conversations.
This month, Personal Intelligence also gained Connected Apps support. With permission, Gemini can pull context from Google Workspace tools like Gmail, Calendar, and Drive, as well as Google Photos, YouTube watch history, and services such as Search, Maps, Flights, Hotels, and Shopping. The result is more personalised responses that reflect how you actually use Google’s ecosystem.
Image and video generation limits are also higher with AI Pro. Free users can generate up to 100 images per day using Nano Banana based on Gemini 2.5 Flash Image, while subscribers get 1,000. The more advanced Nano Banana Pro model allows just three images per day for free users but increases to 100 per day with a subscription. Video generation using Veo 3.1 Fast is exclusive to AI Pro, with a limit of three videos per day.
Other subscriber-only features include scheduled actions, which allow prompts to run automatically based on time or conditions, with up to 10 active actions. Deep Research reports increase from five per month on the free tier to 20 per day for subscribers using the Pro model. Dynamic View usage jumps from 25 to 250 prompts per day, while Audio Overviews and slide generation remain the same for all users.
Overall, Google AI Pro is less about flashy exclusives and more about removing limits. For anyone who uses Gemini heavily for research, planning, or creative work, the subscription turns a capable assistant into a far more practical daily tool.
