Google has revealed that users of the Gemini app have generated 1 billion images in under two months using Nano Banana Pro, the app’s most advanced image generation and editing model.
Nano Banana Pro is the consumer-facing name for Gemini 3 Pro Image, which Google announced on November 20. Since then, the model has been rolled out across the Gemini app and other Google products, quickly becoming one of the most widely used AI image tools in the company’s ecosystem.
All free Gemini users can access Nano Banana Pro by selecting the “Pro” option in the model switcher. Free users are allowed to generate or edit up to three images per day using Nano Banana Pro. Once that limit is reached, they can continue using Nano Banana, also known as Gemini 2.5 Flash Image, up to 100 times per day.
Paid subscribers receive higher limits. Google AI Pro subscribers can generate up to 100 images per day with Nano Banana Pro, while Google AI Ultra subscribers can create up to 1,000 images per day. For Nano Banana, both paid tiers currently support up to 1,000 images per day.
Google has continued to expand editing features since launch. In December, the company added an edit-by-drawing option. Users can upload an image into the prompt box, tap on it, and then draw directly on the image while giving instructions, allowing for more precise local edits and changes.
Nano Banana Pro is positioned as a higher-end creative model compared to Google’s faster image tools. It supports text generation across multiple languages and offers controls such as localised edits, camera angle adjustments, focus changes, and scene lighting transformations. Users can choose from different aspect ratios, with support for 2K and 4K output. These features are intended to support use cases such as infographics, explainers, diagrams and other structured visual content.
On the safety side, the Gemini app allows users to upload images or videos to check whether they were generated using Google AI tools. This feature is part of Google’s broader effort to provide transparency around AI-generated content.
Beyond the Gemini app, Nano Banana Pro is also available across several Google products and services, including AI Mode, NotebookLM, Google Slides, Google Vids and Flow. The wider integration suggests Google is positioning the model as a core creative layer across its productivity and AI platforms.
The 1 billion image milestone underlines how quickly generative image tools are being adopted by mainstream users. For Google, it also signals growing engagement with the Gemini app at a time when competition in AI image generation continues to intensify.
