Apple has refreshed its AirTag tracker with meaningful upgrades focused on findability, range, and convenience
Pricing and availability in India
The new AirTag is available at the same price as before: Rs 3,790 for a single unit and Rs 12,900 for a four-pack. Free personalised engraving is available when ordering online. Apple’s FineWoven Key Ring accessory is sold separately for Rs 3,900. The new AirTag requires an iPhone running iOS 26 or later, or an iPad on iPadOS 26, with Find My enabled.
Longer range with new Ultra Wideband chip
The biggest upgrade comes from Apple’s second-generation Ultra Wideband chip, the same one used in the latest iPhones and Apple Watches. With this, Precision Finding now works from up to 50 percent farther away than before, guiding users to their lost items using visual cues, haptic feedback, and sound. The improved range makes it easier to locate items that are further away or hidden in hard-to-reach places.
Precision Finding comes to Apple Watch
For the first time, users can locate an AirTag using Precision Finding directly from their Apple Watch. Owners of Apple Watch Series 9 and newer, as well as Apple Watch Ultra models, can now get turn-by-turn guidance on their wrist, making it quicker to find misplaced keys or bags without pulling out an iPhone.
Much louder speaker for easier recovery
Apple has redesigned the internals of AirTag to include a louder speaker. The new model is up to 50 percent louder than the previous generation and can be heard from roughly twice the distance. Combined with a new chime, this should make it far easier to track down items buried in bags, couch cushions, or drawers.
Find My network and Share Item Location
As before, AirTag relies on Apple’s Find My network when an item is out of Bluetooth range. Nearby Apple devices can anonymously relay its location back to the owner, with end-to-end encryption ensuring privacy. The new AirTag also integrates with Share Item Location, allowing users to temporarily share an item’s location with trusted third parties like airlines. Apple says more than 50 airlines now support this feature, helping reduce baggage delays and lost luggage incidents.
Apple continues to position AirTag as a tracker for objects, not people or pets. The new AirTag includes built-in protections such as cross-platform alerts and frequently changing Bluetooth identifiers to reduce the risk of unwanted tracking. Apple also reiterates that it does not store location history on the device itself.
Despite the internal upgrades, the AirTag keeps the same form factor as the original, ensuring compatibility with all existing AirTag accessories. Apple has also improved its environmental footprint, using recycled plastic in the enclosure, recycled rare earth elements in magnets, and recycled gold in circuit boards. Packaging is now fully fibre-based and recyclable.
