Apple has launched its latest 14-inch MacBook Pro, powered by the new M5 chip, marking what it calls the “next big leap in AI for the Mac.” The M5 delivers a major performance bump across the board, featuring a next-generation GPU with a Neural Accelerator in every core and a faster 16-core Neural Engine designed for AI and machine learning tasks.
The new M5 chip brings up to 3.5x faster AI performance and 1.6x faster graphics than the previous M4 model. Apple says the new Neural Engine enhances everything from creative apps to local large language models (LLMs), allowing users to run AI tools and workflows directly on the device — no cloud required.
The MacBook Pro also benefits from up to 2x faster SSD speeds, 24 hours of battery life, and 150GB/s unified memory bandwidth, making it ideal for creators, developers, and professionals who rely on demanding workflows. With these upgrades, Apple claims users can now launch apps faster, export large videos more efficiently, and even run advanced text-to-image and AI video enhancement tools seamlessly.
For professionals upgrading from Intel or M1-based Macs, the gains are striking. The M5 MacBook Pro offers up to 86x faster AI performance than Intel models and up to 6x faster AI performance compared to the M1 generation. It also maintains the same performance whether plugged in or on battery — something few Windows laptops can match.
The device retains a 14-inch Liquid Retina XDR display with a nano-texture option, 12MP Center Stage camera, and a six-speaker Spatial Audio system. It runs macOS Tahoe, which includes Apple Intelligence — the company’s new suite of privacy-focused AI features that integrate deeply into the system.
Price and availability
The new MacBook Pro with M5 is available in space black and silver, priced at Rs 169,900 or Rs 1,59,999 for education buyers. Pre-orders are live on Apple’s website and retail availability begins October 22.
