At a time when generative AI is being doled out like confectionary by tech companies, a popular company is steering clear of it. Procreate, the company which created the popular and award-winning art and creativity app, has aid that it will not use generative AI at all.
In a rather strongly worded statement, Procreate said that generative AI is ripping the humanity out of things. “Built on a foundation of theft, the technology is steering us toward a barren future. We think machine learning is a compelling technology with a lot of merit, but the path generative AI is on is wrong for us,” said Procreate in a statement.
The company also said that generative AI poses a moral threat to human creativity. “We're here for the humans. We're not chasing a technology that is a moral threat to our greatest jewel: human creativity,” the company said.
Procreate also acknowledged that by shunning generative AI it might be left behind but still won’t give in to using the tech which is being adopted by one and all. “In this technological rush, this might make us an exception or seem at risk of being left behind. But we see this road less travelled as the more exciting and fruitful one for our community,” Procreate said.
Other productivity and creativity tools are wholeheartedly embracing AI. For instance, Adobe has integrated generative AI tools across its suite of apps like Photoshop among others.
Procreate has been a two-time winner of Apple’s App of the Year awards. The company’s app is an iPad-exclusive and has been quite popular among creative professionals.
