Apart from her tremendous show, India's emerging shuttler Lakshya Sen opened his campaign on a winning note. Lakshya secured a straight games victory over Kevin Cordan in the men's singles badminton tie. The men's doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty too produced a dominant show and overpowered the French pair of Lucas Corvee and Ronan Labar.
India also made a winning start in hockey men's event, but it was rather patchy. The team secured a 3-2 win against New Zealand in Pool B tie, which saw India come back from behind and it also included a controversial goal.
Meanwhile, the men's doubles tennis tie featuring Rohan Bopanna and Sriram Balaji was called off due to rain. They are most likely to play on Sunday if the weather permits.
