India skipper Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli have landed in Chennai for the opening Test against Bangladesh, which gets underway from September 19. Rohit arrived in the city on Thursday night, while Kohli flew straight from London in an early morning flight as reported by PTI. Jasprit Bumrah, who is set to make his first international appearance post India's T20 World Cup triumph, and wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant had also arrived on Thursday.
The players are returning after a good break as focus shifts from white ball to red ball cricket. A busy Test schedule lies ahead with the first assignment being the two Tests against Bangladesh. The second Test starts from September 27 at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur. Following this, India will lock horns in a three-match series against New Zealand at home, before leaving to Australia for the high-voltage Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

This will also be Gautam Gambhir's first assignment in red ball format as India coach. He will hope for a strong show from his players and earn the crucial World Test Championships (WTC) points. India currently lead the points table with 68.52 percentage points, while Australia are a close second with 62.50 percentage points.
Bangladesh, on the other hand, head into the series after a historic 2-0 clean sweep against Pakistan and will be beaming with confidence. Bangladesh defeated Pakistan by 10 wickets in the opening Test, and then riding on a herculean effort by Litton Das they went to stun the hosts by six wickets in the second outing. Both matches were played in Rawalpindi. The outcome also helped Bangladesh leap to the fourth spot with 45.83 percentage points.
