Royal Challengers Bengaluru kept their slim playoff hopes alive on May 9 with a huge 60-run win over Punjab Kings in the IPL 2024 in Dharamsala.
However, the Faf du Plessis-led side has an uphill task ahead of them if they harbour chances of making it to the playoffs.
With two matches pending, here's how RCB can still make it to the playoffs, according to popular cricket influencer Mufaddal Vohra:
- RCB win the remaining two matches with a good margin.
- Gujarat Titans and and Rajasthan Royals need to beat Chennai Super Kings.
- Mumbai Indians beats Lucknow Super Giants.
- Kolkata Knight Riders or Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Gujarat Titans or Shubman Gill-led GT win by lesser margin.
The RCB vs CSK match, scheduled to be held on May 18, could very well be a knockout match with the winning team making it to the playoffs if a few scenarios play out, as per Vohra.
- GT and RR beat CSK.
- RCB beat DC.
- DC or MI beat Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).
As of now, KKR and RR have virtually made it to the playoffs with 16 points each and another three matches to play. Pat Cummins-led SRH also stands a good chance of making it to the playoffs.
MI and PBKS have zero chance of participating in the playoffs.
Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar conjured up superlative fifties before the bowlers joined the party as Royal Challengers Bengaluru kept their slim playoff hopes alive with a huge 60-run win over Punjab Kings.
RCB might rue the one-run defeat to KKR on April 21 if it ultimately becomes a case of "so near yet so far".
