Vinay Kumar cooks Sanjay Manjrekar for on-air remarks

Renowned commentator also a former cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar once again find himself in hot water for his on-air remarks on ex-India medium pacer Vinay Kumar. Manjrekar while doing his commentating duties in the first India vs Australia Test in Perth, which the visitors won by 295 runs, made a remark on India's pitches with a bit of green cover on it and how it assisted medium pacers, who clocked a modest "120 kmph".

During the conversation, Manjrekar namedropped Vinay Kumar as one prime example, but was quick to mention that he holds no disrespect towards the former player. "I think that's gone, but what it also did was medium pacers like the Vinay Kumars, with no disrespect to him, were topping the wicket-taking charts because all they needed to do with grass on the pitch was put the ball at 120 kmph in the right area, and they got wickets," he was heard saying in a clip, which went viral on social media.

However, Manjrekar's remarks didn't sit well with the former cricketer, who was quick to react. Taking a dig at Manjrekar, Vinay shared a post on X and wrote: "Sanjay bhai with due respect, your speed gun requires urgent servicing. 120KMPH, seriously?"

Vinay, who has represented franchises like the Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Kochi Tuskers Kerala (now defunct), Kolkata Knight Riders, Mumbai Indians, also highlighted his achievements on the cricket field. He added: "With God's grace I take pride in my achievements, I am contented, satisfied and happy with my life. A medium pacer like Vinay Kumar has worked really hard to become the 1st Indian fast bowler to take 100 IPL wickets, also played for the country in all the formats. I take pride in my bowling. Anyways best wishes and regards."

Vinay represented India in one Test, 31 ODIs, and nine T20Is and accounted for 48 wickets across all formats. He also had a brilliant domestic career, which saw him scalp a total of 504 wickets in 139 first-class matches. His tally of 442 wickets in the Ranji Trophy is the fourth-highest by any bowler in tournament's history, and highest for a pacer. In the IPL, Vinay Kumar played 105 matches for four different teams, taking 105 wickets.

The sharp reaction by Vinay comes days after Mohammed Shami's social media outburst while reacting to Manjrekar's prediction on him heading into the IPL auction. Manjrekar had predicted that Shami's injury may force the franchises to not invest heavily on the pacer. Reacting to the same, Shami urged the ex-India cricketer to save some wisdom for his future. He also mocked Manjrekar by referring him as "Baba Ji".

Shami was purchased by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 10 crore at the auction.
