The first heatwave of the season has arrived early in parts of Gujarat. The state's temperatures soared close to 40°C in Ahmedabad and several surrounding districts. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert.

This is a warning to residents to stay cautious as unusually high temperatures grip the region. Meteorologists said the sudden spike in temperature signals the early onset of intense summer-like conditions, even though March has only just begun.

Temperatures Rise Far Above Normal in these 4 Locations

According to weather officials, Ahmedabad recorded a maximum temperature of 39.4°C, which is about 5.2°C above the seasonal average. Several other parts of Gujarat also reported extreme heat:

1. Rajkot – around 40°C

2. Surendranagar – around 40°C

3. Mahua – 39.8°C

4. Deesa – 39.6°C

Such temperatures are typically seen later in the season, making this early surge in heat unusual for early March.

Yellow Alert Issued for Multiple Districts

The IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for Monday and Tuesday, indicating that heatwave conditions may affect several districts across Gujarat.

The alert includes areas such as: Ahmedabad, Kutch, Banaskantha, Gandhinagar, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Botad, Vadodara and Surat.

Authorities have advised people to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, stay hydrated and take precautions against heat-related illnesses.

Coastal Areas May Feel Hot and Humid

While inland regions are experiencing extreme dry heat, coastal districts may face hot and humid weather conditions. Humidity combined with high temperatures can make the weather feel even hotter, increasing the risk of heat stress and dehydration.

Experts recommend limiting outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours and ensuring proper hydration.

Temperatures May Rise Further

Weather officials warn that temperatures could increase further over the next three days before stabilising. Forecast models suggest that most parts of Gujarat may experience above-normal temperatures throughout March.

This raised concerns about an early and intense summer season. Meteorologists are continuing to monitor conditions closely as the region prepares for what could be another challenging summer with frequent heatwave episodes.
