Vaishakha Purnima, also known as Gautam Buddha's birth anniversary, falls on Thursday, May 23rd, 2024. Vaishakha Purnima is the second Purnima in the year according to Hindu lunar calendar and it comes just after Narasimha Jayanti.

Vaishakha Jayanti falls on Buddha Purnima day and this day is celebrated as birth anniversary of Gautama Buddha. People worship Lord Satyanarayana, an extremely benevolent form of Lord Vishnu, and observe Satyanarayana fasting on Purnima day.

Many communities observe one day fast on Purnima Tithi according to their Kul Parampara. Kul Paramparas are family traditions passed from generation to generation.

On this day, devotees perform the Satyanarayan Vrat, offer worship to Lord Vishnu and Lord Krishna at temples, partake in a sacred bath in the Ganga River, and seek blessings from Chandra Dev at holy sites and along the Ganga Ghats. It is a day dedicated to presenting prayers and conducting puja ceremonies with great devotion and zeal.

• Rise early for a sacred bath in the Ganga River.
• Set up idols of Lord Vishnu, Lord Krishna, and either Laddoo Gopal Ji or Radha Krishna Ji.
• Bathe them with Gangajal and panchamrit.
• Present Tulsi leaves to the deities.
• Create Panchamrit for the offering.
• Fast from sunrise to sunset and recite the Satyanarayan Vrat Katha in the evening.

• On this auspicious day, abstain from eating non-vegetarian food.
• Foster positive thoughts and steer clear of negativity.
• Be conscious of food wastage and donate any surplus to charity.
• Refrain from any behavior that could cause physical, emotional, or spiritual harm to others.
