Renowned for his academic and practicing capabilities, Australian architect Wolf Prix is an architect’s architect. Born in Vienna, he studied architecture at the Vienna University of Technology, the Architectural Association of London, and the Southern California Institute of Architecture in Los Angeles respectively. In 1968, he set up the Vienna-based practice Coop Himmelb(l)au in collaboration with Helmut Swiczinsky and Michael Holzer. His brainchild, The Busan Cinema Center (with the world’s longest cantilevered roof) earned him a place in the Guinness Book of World Records. In 2004, he received the Annie Spink Award for Excellence in Architectural Education for his commitment to teaching and training. It was followed by the Jencks Award: Visions Built prize for his contribution to the theory and practice of architecture (2008). A year later, Federal President Heinz Fischer bestowed the Austrian Decoration of Honor for Science and Arts on Prix. He is a member of the Austrian Art Senate and of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts.
