Union Minister of State for Entrepreneurship, Skill Development, Electronics & Technology, Rajeev Chandrasekhar, disclosed the unconventional secret behind his office décor — a reverse clock — at the Moneycontrol Global Conclave. When prompted by the event's emcee, Chandrasekhar delved into the symbolic significance of this peculiar timepiece.

“When I got this job it was about 1,100 days to election and I would have meetings with my officers and they would tell me that what’s your hurry, there is many days left. So I then installed this little countdown, a reverse clock. Now it’s about 49 days left,” he said.

The reverse clock serves as a constant reminder of the limited time available to fulfill his responsibilities. “I am in a hurry because I have to finish this work before time runs out and you guys obviously can stay on over and over and I don’t even know if I will have a job,” he said.

Amidst laughter, the event's host chimed in with a touch of optimism, saying, "Hopefully, you'll be able to reset the clock for another five years."

A reverse clock, also known as a counterclockwise or anticlockwise clock, operates by displaying time in the opposite direction compared to a traditional clockwise clock. Instead of moving clockwise, where the hour hand follows the natural progression from 12 to 1 to 2 and so on, a reverse clock moves counterclockwise. The minute hand also moves in the opposite direction.

The mechanism of a reverse clock is essentially the same as a regular clock, with gears and hands driven by a clock movement. The only difference lies in the orientation of the clock hands and the direction in which they move.

The Lok Sabha elections will be held in India tentatively around April-May 2024.
