If you want to run away from the hustle bustle of your town and are desperately in need of a break, then plan a quick trip to any of the gorgeous hill stations of South India. The most remarkable ones which manage to please everyone are Ooty, Kodaikanal and Munnar.

Cool weather, serene atmosphere and space to stretch out and unwind... that’s what makes Indian hill stations so special. But what makes them better than the picturesque landscapes of North India? Let’s find out...

Ooty

Udhagamandalam or Ootacamund is better known as Ooty to distant travellers. What makes Ooty stand out from the rest are the tea plantations set across the hill slopes. Just sit back and relax in portico of your cosy cottage and sip on some organic tea, gazing at the descending clouds in the sky. Forget about sightseeing and indulge in doing absolutely nothing, apart from admiring its frosty weather.

Kodaikanal

If you want to have some fun apart from spending time amidst untouched surroundings, then Kodaikanal is the place to visit. There are several reasons why it’s titled as “Princess of all Hill Stations”. The scent of wild flowers, soaring pine trees and a tinge of romance in the air is what makes Kodaikanal a special travel destination. Tourists head on to the famous caves and then generally to the waterfalls, but we advise you to rather go on a fruit picking spree. Yes, you can pick strawberries and other seasonal fruits by visiting the local farms and the spend rest of the time relishing these fruity delicacies. Be on your own, without a guide and wander around on your bicycle in the narrow alleys of Kodaikanal. Don’t forget to enjoy the sunset.

Munnar

You will see Munnar flocked by Honeymooners, but this hill station has a lot more to offer than a romantic gateway. This majestic land is also an abode for some wild animals. Nilgiri Tahr is on the verge of extinction, but you can find them at Eravikulam National Park in Munnar. If that’s not enough of encounter with wild life then head on to Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary.

Have some more leisure time? Sit on the banks of Sita Devi Lake and try your hands on Trout Fishing while reading your favourite book. Sounds like something from a Hollywood flick, doesn’t it?
