Snapdeal co-founder Kunal Bahl has drawn attention to hotel pricing practices once again, this time over the cost of laundry services during a work trip.
On Wednesday, Bahl posted a photograph of a hotel bill on X showing a charge of Rs 5,900 plus taxes for washing seven basic garments. Sharing the image, he wrote: “Part 2 of hotels being out of touch with changing services landscape for consumers.”
He added: “Laundry of 7 pieces of basic garments during work travel = Rs 5900 + taxes.” And further remarked: “Some of the garments cost less than the laundry." Bahl concluded his post by asking: “Founders: anyone building quick commerce for laundry?”

The post quickly prompted responses from users debating the economics of hotel laundry services. One user wrote: “Laundry is actually good business for hotels. They had to wash only 7 clothes to net this amount. They need only two or three customers, desperate enough to pay higher rate. At real rates, may be they will have to wash hundreds of clothes and still won't get 5000.”
Another questioned whether a rapid-delivery laundry model would be viable in India, commenting: “This idea wouldn't work in India. If quick commerce players are struggling to make a profit in a high-frequency niche like food delivery, it’s unlikely that a laundry service would be profitable in the same space.”
A separate response highlighted broader concerns around hotel standards, stating: “3rd big gap is reliability of basic room hygiene (esp. WCs) incl. at 4-star properties. Prominent pain point beyond business hotels in metros.”
Another user suggested a business-to-business solution, writing: “A more structural opportunity exists in building a B2B version of Urban Company for hotels to address laundry, housekeeping.”
One comment reacting to the bill read: “That is crazy, I can cover 2 years of clothing with that much amount.”
The laundry post follows an earlier comment by Bahl about travellers increasingly ordering food to hotel rooms through delivery applications. The post, he suggested, reflected a growing trend among travellers choosing to order meals through delivery applications rather than dine at in-house restaurants. “Everyone is ordering food in hotels from food delivery apps. Time for introspection for hotels," he wrote.
