Snapchat CEO Evan Spiegel has said that he too plays around with the app's lenses when spending time with his kids, and their current favourite is the Batman one.
"The last lens that I used, I use a bunch with our kids... They're very into Batman. So there are a couple of Batman-related lenses in my carousel right now that I've been having fun with," Spiegel said at an event in Mumbai.
The Snapchat boss was in conversation with the company's Asia Pacific president Ajit Mohan. Spiegel further said that he was really excited to see the explosion of creativity that's been empowered by Snapchat in India, especially at a time when the country is changing so rapidly.
“I love the energy of the young and vibrant Indian developer community. We're excited to be building the future with such incredible local talent,” he said.
The company is gearing up to launch its Diwali-themed augmented reality (AR) lenses for its 200 million Indian users. Evan Spiegel added that youngsters are creating India's future and AR is going to be a key part of that goal.
“Giving people AR experiences to express themselves or to help people learn about the world, I think is a huge opportunity, and whether that's partnering with brands to get more distribution or just building things for fun,” he said.
The Snapchat CEO also highlighted the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in helping reduce the barrier to creativity for developers and creators.
"One of the things that we found early on with augmented reality (AR) was it's very hard to generate 3D assets and takes a long period of time to build all those 3D assets. So how can we use AI to actually reduce the barrier of creation for those 3D assets," Spiegel said, adding that the company has been making significant investments in AI to simplify the process of creating 3D images and developing more immersive AR lenses for creators.
