A data engineer from Bengaluru went viral after revealing her monthly salary and expenses on Instagram. The techie shared that she earns Rs 3 lakh per month and spends just over Rs 2 lakh on living costs, financial obligations, and systematic investments.

In the video, she explained her monthly fixed expenses, such as Rs 20,000 for rent and Rs 5,000 for domestic help. Her rent includes electricity, water, and internet, keeping her monthly expenses steady at Rs 25,000, avoiding unexpected bill fluctuations.

She captioned the video: "Here's how I spend my salary from my full-time data engineering job in Bengaluru. Rent, groceries, EMIs, and bills, but no travel expenses because I go to the office in a cab and I have a scooty so maybe 500 a month for petrol."

She explains that a large portion of her spending goes into the home loan for an apartment she purchased for her parents, with a monthly EMI of 30,000. She said that while buying properly, often viewed as a liability, her decision was driven by gratitude and responsibility towards her family.

She said she spends roughly Rs 8,000 a month on groceries and Rs 2,000 on dining out, while miscellaneous personal costs, such as skincare, self-care, gifts, vitamins, and body care, add up to nearly Rs 5,000 monthly.

She also spends subscriptions, including Rs 12,000 for a gym membership with a personal trainer and Rs 300 a month for streaming platforms, such as Netflix and Apple TV.

The techie further explains that she invests Rs 1 lakh a month in Systematic Investment Plans (SIP). With a six-month emergency fund in place, she avoids extra contingency savings but occasionally buys gold when market conditions are favourable.

Altogether, her fixed monthly expenses come to roughly R 2.12 lakh, excluding travel. In 2025, she spent Rs 7 lakh on trips and is currently planning for major future expenditures, including electronics, weddings, and a dedicated marriage fund.
