Actor Priyanka Chopra recently spoke at Harvard Business School’s India Week, in a closing fireside session moderated by her longtime friend and business partner Anjula Acharia. On Tuesday, Chopra shared an emotional note and a video of the event, referring to Acharia as one of her "closest friends and business partner".

Here are nine things to know about Anjula Acharia:

1) She is the architect of Priyanka Chopra’s Hollywood crossover

Acharia is widely credited with spotting Chopra’s potential for a US career and patiently crafting a strategy that reintroduced the actor to Western audiences—work that has come to define Acharia’s reputation as a “power connector," Harper's Bazaar reported.

2) She founded DesiHits!, a popular 'East‑meets‑West' platform

Before the current streaming era, Acharia co‑founded DesiHits!, a content and music venture that bridged South Asian culture with the West and collaborated with major label executives. The platform laid the groundwork for later cross‑cultural bets.

3) Acharia now runs A‑Series investments and management

Beyond talent representation, Acharia leads A‑Series, investing in and advising consumer‑tech and CPG startups (fast-growing consumer packaged goods companies), with a focus on women‑ and minority‑led companies—an extension of her “Hollywood meets Silicon Valley” thesis.

4) She helped bring South Asian artists and stories into the mainstream

Acharia has pushed for broader, non‑stereotypical representation of South Asians globally, arguing that progress is real but proportional presence still lags the community’s share of the world’s population.

5) She’s building a music bridge with Warner Music Group

In 2025, Acharia launched 5 Junction Records, a joint venture label with Warner Music Group to discover and amplify South Asian and diaspora artists for US audiences—working closely with Warner Records and WMG’s India and Canada alliances, Billboard reported.

6) Her investing track record includes early bets that became unicorns

Profiles of Acharia highlight early‑stage investments and advisory roles across consumer brands and tech; her portfolio and public bios consistently cite breakout wins and board roles in digital media.

7) She operates at the Hollywood–tech intersection by design

Acharia has described her mission as bridging two ecosystems—storytelling power in entertainment and scale in technology—then channeling both into cross‑cultural platforms and businesses.

8) Recognition from the entertainment business has followed

Industry lists and profiles track Acharia’s inclusion among power players over the past decade. Multiple publications, such Harper's Bazaar and Forbes, highlighted her influence in building global careers and culture‑forward ventures.

9) She continues to push South Asian music as a global sound

The 5 Junction launch notes point to fast‑rising collaborations and arena moments for Punjabi and Indian pop—momentum Acharia is explicitly trying to convert into durable, US‑scale careers, "much like a modern Desi Hits but with significantly more established talent and infrastructure," Billboard noted.
