Team India faced a heart-wrenching loss against Australia in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 final on Sunday. Despite the disappointment, the indomitable spirit displayed by the Men in Blue did not go unnoticed as Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally visited the team's dressing room to offer words of support and a hug for pacer Mohammed Shami, the highest wicket taker of the tournament.
Shami thanked all Indians for their unwavering support throughout the tournament in a tweet and shared picture of the Prime Minister giving him a hug.
“Unfortunately yesterday was not our day. I would like to thank all Indians for supporting our team and me throughout the tournament. Thankful to PM @narendramodi for specially coming to the dressing room and raising our spirits. We will bounce back!” he wrote.

"Dear Team India, Your talent and determination through the World Cup was noteworthy. You've played with great spirit and brought immense pride to the nation. We stand with you today and always," he wrote.
India's sensational, undefeated run at the tournament ended in crushing fashion after the Men in Blue lost by six wickets to now six-time champions Australia.
Players, including captain Rohit Sharma and fast bowler Mohammed Siraj, were seen in tears after the loss.
The cricketing saga took an intense turn with India managing to post only 240 runs in the first innings. KL Rahul top-scored with 66 from 107 balls. Virat Kohli made 54 after Rohit Sharma struck 47 off just 31 balls opening the innings.
The team staged a strong comeback with the ball, putting Australia under pressure early on but fell short. The turning point came with the 137-run inning of Travis Head and his partnership with Marnus Labuschagne, who contributed 57 runs off 109 balls.
Australia beat India by 6 wickets with 42 balls remaining.
