Paneer is used to make a variety of dishes in Indian households and is quite popular among vegetarians as a source of protein. However, a picture that is doing the rounds of the internet has disgusted social media users. The image featured a man sitting on a pile of paneer to drain out the excess water and it has gone viral.

The now-viral post was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by a user named Azhar Jafri. The Indian Institute of Technology Bangalore (IIT-B) alum wrote, “Never buying non-branded paneer after seeing this,” while sharing the picture.

In the photo, a man was seen wearing a lungi and sitting on a wooden board with a pile of paneer below. There was also a container that collected the excess water from the cheese.

According to the post, the image was from Uttar Pradesh’s Kanpur but Moneycontrol could not verify the location.

Needless to say that the post went viral with a string of responses from social media users. Some people pointed out that the same paneer can also be sold in branded packaging.

“What if this paneer is packed/branded and sold? Lol,” a user wrote. Another user commented, “Use homemade paneer.”

“I guess most of the food carts and dhabas use this kind of paneer,” a third user remarked.

“Fixed it: Not buying anything that is non-branded,” a fourth user added.

Jafri, however, stood by his remark and shared a video of paneer being manufactured in a “hygienic" way at Udaipur’s Paras Dairy.
