A man in Delhi faced a wave of online condemnation after a video emerged showing him allowing his young son to urinate on the tracks at Inderlok Metro Station, moments before a train arrived.
The footage, originally uploaded to Reddit’s r/Delhi community before being removed for breaching platform rules, reappeared on X (formerly Twitter), where it provoked fierce debate.
The 22-second clip showed the child standing at the edge of the platform, relieving himself while his father looked on. The person filming, apparently another commuter, could be heard saying in Hindi: “Look at this man. He is letting his child urinate here at Inderlok Metro Station. He is not even ashamed about it. This is a public space. He is one of the most uncivilised people of India.”
The camera panned to the station signage before focusing back on the pair. Moments later, another man, possibly a Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) employee, approached the father to speak with him. The father gave a brief, indistinct reply and then walked away with his son.
Reactions on social media were sharply divided. Many condemned the father’s actions as an example of declining civic behaviour. “Metro stations literally have toilets. Where is the security? Why aren’t such offenders heavily fined?” one user asked.

Another wrote: “It’s so normalised in people’s minds that they don’t even recognise it as wrong. If the conscience doesn’t register the fault, how will they correct it?”
Some blamed poor infrastructure for the incident. “Once you enter the station, there should be toilets inside, free of charge. Since passengers pay for the service, this should be a basic provision,” one commenter argued.
A parent expressed sympathy for the man in the video, saying: “Where should he have taken his son? There are no restrooms, and the ones that exist are filthy. It’s a governance problem.”
One X user reflected: “Everyone wants order, but the mentality of not wanting to do anything ourselves — change this mentality, and your transformation will be visible.” Another described the father’s behaviour as “a prime example of bad parenting” and claimed “he knew it was wrong, yet still encouraged his son.”
The discussion prompted others to share personal experiences of questionable public behaviour on the metro. One person recalled travelling on Raksha Bandhan when a child appeared to be about to vomit. “Everyone asked the woman to take the child out of the metro, but she refused to stand up and said, ‘Let him do it. I won’t move. Metro staff will clean it.’ I should’ve said, ‘The cleaning crew should clean you instead,’ but whatever. All this happened near Naraina Vihar,” they wrote.
Another described an altercation at Rajiv Chowk after confronting a woman for throwing orange peels onto the tracks. “She made a scene, and the security had the audacity to fine me for ‘creating ruckus — diversion in their duty.’ She boarded the train while they took me away,” the user claimed.
The DMRC has not yet issued a statement in response to the viral footage.
