A Mumbai-based co-founder and CEO has recently shared a hiring call for people who spend more than six hours a day scrolling through YouTube and Instagram. In doing so, Monk-E’s Viraj Sheth rebranded “doom-scrollers”—a term once synonymous with digital fatigue”—into a skillset.
Sharing details of the full-time role on LinkedIn, Sheth made it clear that it demands more than just idle browsing. Applicants must clock over six hours of daily screen time on Instagram and YouTube (screenshots required), be fluent in both English and Hindi, and have a working knowledge of Excel. But the real qualification? An obsessive awareness of creators and creator culture since the company deal in talent management, influencer marketing, and video production.
“Consume r/ICG like the morning paper,” he wrote, referencing the Reddit community r/IndianContentCreatorsGroup, a hub for tracking emerging influencers and viral trends.
The role is Mumbai-based and full-time, with applications invited via email—subject line “doomscroller”. “Please show some personality/humour in the email body. Do not use chatGPT for it," Sheth concluded.
The post soon drew a lot of reactions from users, most praised the role, while some appeared to be sceptical. “I love how we are changing names of the jobs, and making it sound more fun and exciting,” commented brand manager Natasha Joshi. Another user, posting under the handle Untold Mantras, called it “a great way to match culture with skills.”
“I can finally tell my mom that scrolling through my phone is a legitimate job,” wrote Sourabh Bhujle, an electrical engineer, while LinkedIn user Yash Arora asked, "Is this satire?"
The creator economy, projected to be worth over $480 billion globally by 2027 (according to Goldman Sachs), is spawning roles that didn’t exist five years ago. From “meme strategists” to “TikTok trend analysts,” companies are increasingly hiring for cultural fluency over conventional degrees.
Cybersecurity professional Het Mehta summed it up: “It’s funny how 2025 introduced new careers that no one had thought about before.”
