Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar passed away on January 28 in a tragic plane crash, sending shockwaves across the state’s political landscape. As leaders from across party lines expressed grief over his sudden death, a video of NCP MLA Dhananjay Munde reacting emotionally to the news went viral on social media.
A video of Dhananjay Munde, began circulating widely across social media platforms. The clip quickly became a talking point, triggering online debate on filming such moments.
In the footage, Munde is seen seated inside a car, holding a phone to his ear. He appears visibly shaken while receiving the news of Ajit Pawar’s death and struggles to speak as he processes the information.
Soon after the clip was shared online, several users began questioning why such a moment was recorded. Many asked who filmed the video and whether it was appropriate to capture a private reaction to such news.
Online, several users also criticised Munde. While some believed the moment could be genuine, others questioned its authenticity and dismissed it as acting. The video was widely shared across platforms.
One netizen expressed on X, “Who is recording and why?” Another wrote, “I can never understand who films these netas while they’re supposedly grieving someone’s death.”
One user commented, “This is Dhananjay Munde, the MLA from NCP. As soon as he got the news of Ajit Pawar ji's demise, he immediately called his cameraman and had a video made while crying, sobbing, and sniffling.”
Several users questioned the intent behind recording and sharing the clip. One comment read, “As a child, I had two questions. Why is Bollywood based only in Maharashtra? And how do great actors manage to do well in politics? Today, watching Dhananjay Munde, both questions answered themselves.”
Another added, “Bro is Dhananjay Munde. Bro is MLA from NCP (AP faction). Bro got the news of Ajit Pawar’s death. Bro asked his man to record a video. Bro started crying and posted it on social media.”
While most comments questioned the video, some users urged restraint, saying that grief can affect people differently. They also noted that politicians are often surrounded by aides and media staff, making it difficult to avoid cameras during sudden developments.
Meanwhile, Ajit Pawar’s last rites were performed with full state honours at the Vidya Pratishthan ground in Baramati. A large number of supporters, party workers and members of the public gathered to pay their respects.
Several senior leaders attended the funeral, reflecting the scale of the loss. Those present included Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, and more.
