Earlier this month, reports emerged that approximately 36 per cent of students, who had registered for placements at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in Bombay, were yet to find jobs despite the placement season having begun in December.
As per reports, 712 out of the 2,000 students who had registered for placements at the institute were still without an offer and the placement deficit had risen by 2.8 per cent as compared to last year.
Even as students find ways to get jobs before graduating from the prestigious institute, a Microsoft techie had some words of advice and took to LinkedIn to share the suggestions.
Writing on the social networking platform, the techie advised students, not just at IIT Bombay but elsewhere as well, to take up job offers "at whatever the best salary you can" and urged students to not look for roles specifically at software giants such as Facebook, Amazon and Apple or look for remote opportunities.
"My advice would be simple, get the job at whatever the best salary you can.
Don’t run blindly for FAANG, Remote or any kinds of jobs," the techie wrote.
He also adviced students to adapt, considering the prevailing economic situation, and said that things would ease after getting some amount of experience.
"Economy is tough so you better be ready to adapt. Then after getting into the industry, you’ll get ample opportunities to switch and it gets a little easier with experience," he added.
The techie's post saw a lot of user comments. While some agreed with his views, others had different opinion.
"You are right as instead of going for FAANG companies one should find a Job first and may switch it later as placements are very uncertain in today's world. If IITs are having such situations then the conditions of placements at tier 3 colleges are even worse," one user wrote.
"It's really very hard to mentally adapt the things going on in tech industry right now as a first year grad, but will keep a hope that efforts will definitely pay off," another user wrote.
"To get more opportunities, first we have to be a part of the industry," a third user wrote.
