A video circulating on social media platforms showing a man urinating openly inside a Delhi Metro station has triggered widespread criticism and renewed concerns over public behaviour and hygiene in shared transport spaces.
The clip shows a man standing near a glass barrier on a metro platform and urinating in public view. Moments later, after appearing to notice that he is being recorded, the individual is seen fleeing the area. The footage has been shared widely across X and other platforms.
Moneycontrol.com has not been able to independently verify the date of the incident or confirm the exact metro station where the video was recorded.
The video prompted a wave of reactions online, with several users criticising the act and calling for punitive action. One user wrote, “Print his photo and hang it on the same wall for a week. That’s the only way to deal with these.” Another commented, “Common sense is a sense which is not common to all.”
A third post read, “This is a punishable offence. He should be punished.” Another user shared a personal account, stating, “This has happened right in front of me once. It was around 10 at night, and a man started urinating on the platform in front of me. Since then, unless I have no other option, I don’t travel by metro.”
Some responses were sharply critical, including one that said, “Why are men so filthy? Especially the Delhi and North belt ones? Is it like a family thing or something?”
Another user linked the behaviour to broader social issues, writing, “Why is anyone even surprised? This is just another Indian male. It shows their upbringing and schooling (if he ever attended one). Our schools teach how to be an engineer or doctor but there is no curriculum on public behaviour and civic sense.”
He is literally peeing inside of the metro station & that too on platform. He is clearly under the alcohol influence Metro is the only thing that better cleanliness & women safety. Several users also highlighted similar experiences across metro premises. One post read, “Civic sense is seriously lacking among many people in Delhi. In metro premises, some openly urinate or even let children do the same. Used metro tickets are thrown on the floor instead of dustbins. People eat at stations and leave the waste right there. Overall, there's a worrying lack of basic civic responsibility in the nation's capital.”
Others questioned whether the individual avoided using toilet facilities to save money, with one user sarcastically asking if he behaved similarly at home or chose the platform to avoid paying the Rs 5 fee.
Following the circulation of the video, the DMRCissued a public appeal asking commuters to assist in maintaining cleanliness across metro premises. In a statement, the corporation said, “DMRC requests all its passengers to help in keeping the premises clean and hygienic. If passengers notice any such activity by a fellow passenger, they should immediately bring the same to the notice of DMRC authorities.”
Responding to passenger concerns on X, the DMRC added, “Hi, any inconvenience is regretted. Suitable action is taken in case any such activity is noticed.”
