Lay’s chips packets seemingly having more air than the actual product has long been a topic of jokes and memes, but this new incident on X takes it to a new extreme. A recent video has exposed the alarming disparity between packaging and content in Lay's potato chip packets.
A customer, expecting a satisfying snack session with a Rs 5 packet of Lay's salted-flavoured potato chips, was left dumbfounded when he discovered only two pieces of chips inside.
The now-viral video opens with the man attempting to open a seemingly puffed-up Lay's chip packet. What follows is a disheartening revelation as he uncovers just only two chips within the supposedly value-for-money package that even says “25% more chips”.
Expressing his disbelief, the customer states, "Only two Lay's are there. Just see. Bass do hi chips hain is Lay's ke packet mein. Aap dekh sakte hain. Aur yeh Rs 5 ka hai. (There’s only two chips in this Lay’s packet as you can see and it costs Rs 5)."
In a bid to bring attention to the packaging discrepancy, the customer tags both Lay's India and PepsiCo in his social media post. He wrote: Dear @Lays_India @PepsiCoIndia, today's snack session took an unexpected turn. Purchased a 5 rupee classic salted pack with hopeful anticipation, only to unveil a mere TWO chips inside. Is this the new standard? As a loyal customer, this falls short of expectations.”

The video has triggered a range of responses, with some users humorously suggesting that finding two chips in a bag full of air is a stroke of luck. One comment jests, "Oh wow!!! You got chips there... I thought you only got flavoured air inside the packet! Lucky you!"
A skeptical user questions the methodology behind recording the video and suggests legal action, to which the customer responds, "Actually weight was quite low, at first, I thought there would be nothing in it, just powder will be there."
Other users join in, with one comparing the Rs 5 Cadbury offering, stating, "5 Rs Cadbury has more content it seems." The humour continues with remarks like, "Glad you at least got two. I sometimes get only nitrogen." One user said in Hindi that the company only put in the extra 25% chips promised and forgot about the actual weight.
Social media users have over the years playfully mocked the brand's packaging strategy, creating a virtual gallery of memes that humorously exaggerate the air-to-chip ratio. Memes often depict Lay's packets as containing more air than potato chips, uniting snack enthusiasts in their bemusement over the sometimes-disappointing reality behind the packaging.
