Luxury fashion frequently introduces designs that depart from conventional ideas of clothing and often test public opinion. But a recent product by a luxury clothing brand has left the internet in stitches.

Vetements, a Swiss label, is going viral after listing a plain white shirt featuring a printed ‘iron burn’ mark. The unusual design and high price have led many to question how everyday mistakes are being turned into premium fashion statements.

The shirt, sold under the name White Ironing Burn Graphic Shirt, features an oversized fit and what appears to be a dark scorch mark printed near the chest pocket. The graphic closely resembles the mark left on fabric when an iron is pressed for too long. While the brand is known for presenting unconventional designs and challenging traditional fashion norms, many social media users say this latest release goes too far.

The product is listed at $1,139, which converts to around Rs 1,03,270. For what appears to be a basic white shirt with a printed burn effect, the pricing has become the main point of debate.

Soon after images of the shirt were shared online, social media users began reacting with humour and disbelief. One user wrote, “Why pay $1k when I can easily burn my white shirt?” Another added, “I’ve been doing this for free for years. Turns out my laundry pile is actually a high-fashion archive.”

One said, “Swiss luxury label #Vetements has launched a plain white shirt featuring a printed iron burn mark on the pocket, priced at a staggering $1139, roughly Rs 95k to over Rs 1 lakh depending on exchange rates. Fashion has truly taken a bizarre turn” Some responses were sarcastic. One said, “My mom made this for free.”

Another user commented, “Once again, luxury clothing brands is a social experiment to see how much people are willing to pay for clothes.” One more wrote, “Vetements is charging $1,100+ for a shirt that looks like you had a panic attack at 7 AM while ironing. Why fix your mistakes when you can wear them as a flex?”

Another criticised the design, saying, “The problem with this is that they lack creativity and it looks just dirty. Great designers make great things. This is low-level. The price tag should be 0. On a casual funny tshirt you can say ok..it could work, but on a white shirt.”

Some users focused on the psychology behind luxury purchases. One wrote, “You'll be shocked at what people are willing to pay for. The thrill is everything, not the cost. Within the confines of human psychology, almost anything is sellable.”

Another added, “This is why fashion stops feeling like art and starts feeling like a joke. You're not buying a shirt. You're buying the ability to say you spent $1,139 on fake damage.”
