Mumbai, country’s financial capital, is also known for its high property prices. For many residents, owning or renting a flat in the city can be a challenge. Recent social media posts have highlighted just how difficult it can be to find a suitable home.
A video shared on Instagram by the handle @jayantikaa has drawn attention to a Mumbai apartment that appears well-maintained and furnished, but is compact in size. What surprised the woman as well as the netizens was the layout, the kitchen and bathroom are positioned directly opposite each other. According to the video, the flat is priced at Rs 1.25 crore, although Moneycontrol could not verify the details.
The Instagram post read, “Mumbai real estate feels like a massive social experiment at this point.” The video quickly went viral, prompting reactions from netizens. The post also sparked discussion about the broader housing situation in Mumbai, where limited land and high demand push property prices up. Many sympathised with residents struggling with high property costs, while others suggested government intervention.
One user said, “Bathroom looks as big as the hall.” Another pointed out, “They are selling 1RK as 1 BHK.”
The small size of the apartment and its unusual layout drew attention from several commenters. One user commented, “Government should fixed the rate with area wise. Otherwise builder will ask any amount due to which common people unable to purchase.” Another wrote, “Matchboxes can hold more sticks.”
Despite its compactness, some noted the apartment’s relative affordability in Mumbai’s market. One user observed, “Quiet big actually. In Mumbai getting something under 2cr is also difficult these days.”
At the same time, one user highlighted that the issue is not just size but functionality. The user explained, “The issue here isn't the size; it’s the lack of functional flow. Even with limited square footage, a good layout should prioritize movement and light. This design creates unnecessary bottlenecks and awkward corners that make the space feel claustrophobic rather than cozy. It’s a classic case of a bad floor plan, making a small space feel even smaller.”
