John Mayer’s India debut has hit a sour note after BookMyShow announced a 15-day postponement of the much-anticipated Mumbai concert. Originally scheduled for January 22, the show will now take place on February 11, at Mahalaxmi Race Course, with all tickets remaining valid for the new date. The announcement has, however, left outstation fans in an uproar over flight tickets that can't be rescheduled, hotel stays, and even the concert ticket expenses.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, the John Mayer concert scheduled for January 22 has been postponed to February 11. All existing tickets purchased on BookMyShow will remain valid,” the platform said in an official statement, advising customers to reach out for ticket-related queries. But, no clarity on refunds has left fans fuming.
On social media, users vented frustration over mounting expenses. Kolkata-based musician Wriddhaayan Bhattacharyya wrote: “Any organiser producing such a large-scale concert should be accountable. My flight tickets are non-refundable, and there are so many people who booked hotels in advance. My expenses are close to Rs 25,000, including concert tickets.”
Facebook user Abhitosh Daw commented, "This is crazy! Zero accountability! Just showing some random dates, selling tickets, then shifting dates randomly."

Another user demanded refunds for non-Mumbai residents. “BookMyShow, please help me with a refund. It makes no sense for me to book flights again. A refund should be given to ALL NON-MUMBAI RESIDENTS," wrote X user Anuj Tyaji. Another user Pratik Saha added, “Everyone has expensive flight tickets + hotel stay booked! What about those! Not done at all, shame on you!”
One fan summed up the disappointment: “Got my wisdom tooth extracted. I’m home alone and in pain. John Mayer cancelled his concert in Mumbai that I was supposed to attend. This day couldn’t get any worse.”
Meanwhile, there are speculations that the concert was postponed due to the death of Mayer's close friend and fellow musician and songwriter Bob Weir on January 10. The 78-year-old was battling cancer.
Mayer had slaso shared a tribute to Weir on Instagram.
The seven-time Grammy winner was set for a one-night-only performance, marking his first appearance in India. While BookMyShow has promised support for queries, fans continue to demand refunds and accountability as the postponement disrupts travel plans and budgets.
