A Tesla owner has stated that the company’s Full Self-Driving (FSD) system helped prevent a potentially serious road incident after he lost consciousness while driving on a freeway. The account drew widespread attention on X after it was shared by the motorist, Rishi Vohra, and later acknowledged by Tesla chief executive Elon Musk.
Vohra, who identified himself as being of Indian origin, described the episode as unfolding during what had initially been an ordinary journey. In a post on X, he wrote: “My Tesla literally saved my life yesterday. What started as a normal drive turned terrifying fast. I unintentionally fasted for 17 hours, took some medicine, and had a severe allergic reaction.”
He stated that his physical condition deteriorated quickly while he was driving and speaking to his wife by telephone. “My body shut down — I passed out while driving on the freeway, mid-conversation with my wife on the phone,” he wrote.
According to Vohra, the vehicle’s Full Self-Driving feature was active at the time. He said the car’s driver monitoring system detected that he was no longer responsive. “Thank God my Tesla had Full Self-Driving engaged. It detected I lost consciousness (thanks to the driver monitoring system), immediately slowed, activated hazards, and safely pulled over to the shoulder. No crash. No danger to anyone else on the road,” he stated.
He explained that his wife realised something was wrong when he stopped responding during their call. She used the Life360 application to notify emergency services. “My wife heard me go silent and knew something was wrong. She used @Life360 to alert emergency services — they located me within 5 minutes,” he wrote.
Vohra said emergency responders arrived promptly and provided assistance. After regaining some awareness, he told them he did not wish to leave his vehicle on the freeway. “They attended to me enough for me to tell them, ‘I don't want to abandon my truck here on the freeway.’ So the Tesla autonomously drove me the rest of the way to the ER,” he wrote.
He added that he entered the emergency department on arrival and was admitted for observation. “I walked in, got admitted, and they stabilized me overnight. I'm being discharged today — levels back to normal, feeling grateful and alive,” he said.
In his message, Vohra expressed gratitude towards his wife and the company. “Huge thanks to my incredible wife for staying calm and acting fast, and to @elonmusk @Tesla @tesla for engineering cars that literally protect lives when the driver can't. This isn't just convenience—it's life-saving tech,” he wrote.

He later shared additional footage recorded by the vehicle’s onboard cameras during the episode.
Elon Musk responded directly to the post, writing: “Glad you're ok!”
His reply attracted significant engagement on X and prompted debate about the capabilities and limits of advanced driver assistance systems.
Social media users expressed a range of views. One person wrote: “I did not post my story but in January I suffered an injury at work, my right arm was broken and FSD in my Model Y Juniper took me to the hospital hands free. My neighbor had surgery and driving wasn’t an option but she handled herself for 2 weeks recovery with FSD everywhere.”
Another commented: “This sounds incredible, but also slightly scary to rely so much on software.”
A third added: “That's absolutely incredible! I'm tearing up reading it. So grateful you made it through safely. Thank you to your wife for acting fast, and huge thanks to Elon and the Tesla team for building tech that literally saves lives.”
Others highlighted the role of Vohra’s wife. One user wrote: “The real hero here is the wife who stayed calm and acted fast,” while another stated: “Stories like this make you realise how far car safety has come.”
