Tensions in the Middle East have forced many families to take shelter. An Indian scientist in Israel, Suchismita Muduli Baron, has been living through the conflict firsthand, spending long hours in a shelter with her family as missile attacks from Iran continue. She has shared glimpses of life on social media, showing the challenges of daily life when safety is never guaranteed.

Baron is among thousands of Israelis who spent Saturday moving in and out of shelters. In her posts, it is not clear whether she was in a public shelter or a private one. Unlike many countries, Israel requires shelters to be built into homes, schools, offices, and public spaces, ensuring citizens have safe spaces in times of crisis.

In one video, Baron and her family sat on bedsheets spread on the floor, eating a simple meal of pasta on disposable plates. In another, her children were seen napping on bunk beds. She said the family has not been sleeping well because of anxiety.

Reflecting on how life in the shelter affects daily routines, she described the difficulty of finding rest amid constant alerts. “Sleep feels different these days. We don’t fully rest — we stay alert, listening, waiting. It’s exhausting, but as a mother, I don’t have the option to fall apart. I choose strength. I choose calm. I choose hope. And I pray tomorrow feels lighter,” she wrote.

Several social media users offered support and shared their thoughts for families like Baron’s. One person sent wishes for courage and resilience during the stressful times.

“As a mother, I pray and send u lots of positive vibes for you to get through these tough times.”

Another user wrote, “May God be with you! May you be safe and protected and together.”

The attacks follow joint military strikes by Israel and the United States on Iran. Reports confirmed that Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran’s Supreme Leader, and Armed Forces Chief of Staff Abdolrahim Mousavi were killed.

US President Donald Trump issued a stern warning to Iran regarding any potential retaliation. “Iran just stated that they are going to hit very hard today, harder than they have ever been hit before. They better not do that, however, because if they do, we will hit them with a force that has never been seen before!”

The Indian Embassy in Tel Aviv has asked Indian citizens to be very careful and stay alert because of the current security situation in the region. The Embassy has advised everyone to follow the safety rules and instructions given by the Israeli authorities and the Home Front Command.

All Indian nationals have been told to stay close to designated shelters and know where the nearest protected spaces are, both at home and at work. They have also been asked to avoid any travel in Israel that is not essential until further notice.
