A German Shepherd was filmed charging at a young girl inside an apartment complex in Ghaziabad in an incident that has once again raised concerns about rules to keep pets in check. CCTV footage shows that the six-year-old girl was riding her bicycle when the dog charged towards her in an apparently unprovoked attack. While the dog was wearing a leash, its owner seemed unable to restrain it. The dog did not appear to be wearing a muzzle in CCTV footage that has been widely shared online.
The incident took place at Ajnara Integrity Housing Society, where the six-year-old’s mother and a security guard immediately rushed to her aid.
Although the German Shepherd grabbed hold of the girl, she managed to avoid more serious injuries thanks to the swift intervention of her mother, Namita Chauhan. According to an India Today report, Chauhan has filed a police complaint in connection with the incident.

Chauhan is seeking the removal of the dog from the society premises citing safety of residents. On the basis of her complaint, police have charged the dog’s owner under Section 289 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), accusing her of negligence.
Over the last few years, the issue of muzzling pet dogs has become a contentious one. While some RWAs mandate that pet parents must muzzle their pets in public areas, pet owners say muzzling poses a health hazard for dogs. Last year, footage of a woman refusing to muzzle her dog inside the lift of a housing society in Noida had started a furious debate on the issue.
