A recruitment post shared by a Bengaluru-based startup founder has prompted widespread debate online after it outlined a set of unusual expectations for applicants, including a remark linking income levels to age.
The advertisement was posted on X by Ruchir Jajoo, who announced that his company Social Capital was looking to hire a Head of Growth for its Bengaluru office. The role was advertised with a salary package of Rs 50 lakh per year.
The post quickly drew attention on social media because of the unconventional language used in describing the candidate profile.
Jajoo wrote that the company was seeking someone who is “extremely articulate”, “cerebral” and possesses a “top 1% viral sense”. The description also listed a range of other expectations, including an enthusiasm for “Tech Twitter”, a belief that LinkedIn is “cringe”, a regular gym routine, and what he described as being a “healthy workaholic”.
Among the conditions listed in the post, one statement in particular became the focus of online discussion. The advertisement read: “If you’re 27+ and make <2L/month, probably don’t apply.”
The job description also made it clear that the company was not seeking candidates who prioritise work–life balance. “Not a ‘balance’ person. We’re not a yoga retreat,” the post stated.
Details of the role:
In explaining the position, Jajoo said the role would involve close collaboration with founders of rapidly expanding technology startups and overseeing major product launches.
“You will be forward deployed into the fastest-growing companies in Silicon Valley, advising founders directly and orchestrating company-defining launches,” the description said.
The responsibilities outlined in the advertisement indicate that the position would involve leading complex marketing launches and managing significant financial resources.
“This role is extremely demanding. You're managing a team. You're running budgets north of a million dollars. Multiple launches live simultaneously, Founder's trajectory depends on what you ship,” the description added.

About the company:
Jajoo also described the work undertaken by his firm. According to the post, Social Capital specialises in organising large-scale product launches designed to generate significant online attention for technology companies.
He wrote that the company has developed a structured approach to product launches, describing it as a “launch playbook”.
The post stated that the method was first used by a company called Icon and later gained wider recognition when it was used by Cluely. Since then, Jajoo wrote, Social Capital has worked on social media campaigns designed to make product launches trend online for several technology companies, including Deel, Gamma, Airwallex, and others.
According to the post, the firm’s work includes narrative development, launch video production, visual assets, social media posts, strategy, and direct advisory work with founders on elements such as messaging, landing pages, offers and pricing. Jajoo added that the company has also built internal software to measure engagement and track the performance of its campaigns.
“Our launches are trajectory-changing for startups through direct traction, brand, recruiting, and access to capital,” the description said.
The post quickly attracted responses online, with several users questioning the recruitment criteria, particularly the reference to age and income.
One user wrote: “So if I’m above 27 and make lesser but have the qualifications I can’t apply???”
Another commenter asked: “Why age shaming by 27+ can’t apply?”
Some users also highlighted what they considered contradictory expectations in the advertisement.
“‘Not a balance person’, ‘goes to the gym’, ‘Healthy Workaholic’ - what kind of ‘not a balance person’ you want that does balance health and work?” one commenter wrote.
"Says 'find LinkedIn cringe' and asked for LinkedIn URL," another pointed out.
However, others defended the founder’s approach, arguing that the wording was intended as a way to screen applicants and narrow the candidate pool.
“The 27+ and <2L/month line is brutal but kinda honest. Most people hitting that comp already have the reps this role needs,” one user wrote.
Another suggested that the requirement might be a way to identify candidates who have progressed quickly in their careers.
“I think they are trying to narrow the pool to people who have been able to get to ₹2L+ by 27. It’s quite an effective filter to spot high performers,” the user commented.
