Move over, Spotify Wrap. Food delivery platform Swiggy has released its annual year-ender report that offers some fascinating insights into how (and what) India ordered this year. The 2023 ‘Swiggy Wrap’ report looks at the ordering trends of 2023 and has some delicious tidbits on Swiggy’s best customers and biggest orders.
India’s love for biryani continuesBiryani continued its reign as India’s favourite dish. It was the most-ordered dish on Swiggy for the eighth year in a row.
India ordered 2.5 biryanis per second in 2023. And leading the charge was one Hyderabad man who ordered 1,633 biryanis this year. That is more than 4 biryanis a day!
Hyderabad, in fact, surpassed other cities when it came to ordering biryanis – every sixth order for the dish came from The City of Pearls.

All in all, India ordered 2.5 biryanis per second in 2023. And it’s not just chicken biryani that Indians love. According to Swiggy, for every 5.5 chicken biryanis, there was one veg biryani ordered.
Big spenders (and savers)One of the biggest biryani orders came not from Hyderabad but Chandigarh. According to the Swiggy 2023 report, one family in Chandigarh ordered 70 plates of biryani in a single go during the nail-biting India vs Pakistan match.
Among the big spenders on Swiggy was a Mumbai man who placed food orders worth Rs 42.3 lakh in 2023. Talk about an eye-popping amount.
In Hyderabad, unofficially the biryani capital of India, one customer spent 6 lakhs on a completely different dish – idlis.
But some Swiggy users took full advantage of discount coupons, Swiggy One memberships and offers to save big. A single Swiggy One user saved Rs 6.98 lakhs through free deliveries, discounts, and other benefits.

One the other hand, one Hyderabad resident managed to save Rs 5.58 lakh through exclusive discounts and offers available through Swiggy Dineout.
