Bengaluru’s metro network has recently caught the attention of social media users for an unusual reason. A section of the city’s elevated tracks has sparked debate online, with photos showing them rising and falling in a way that reminded some netizens of a roller coaster. The images have prompted both curiosity and amusement, as people examined the line’s unusual design.

The system, officially called Namma Metro, has now earned the nickname Metro‑coaster. On Reddit, a user shared three images of the tracks and wrote, “Metro‑coaster?” They added, “Seen metro climbing steep slopes in Bangalore anywhere yet?”

The tracks in the photographs are reportedly located in north Bengaluru, beyond the Hebbal flyover on the airport road. Unlike other stretches of the city’s metro network, this line appears to rise and steep dip, attracting attention online.

Some Reddit users discussed how this line differs from others. One user, questioning the design, asked, “How is it different from the purple line? It goes underground and then goes up too.” Another user responded, pointing out the difference in elevation, “This line is going up & down above ground itself.”

Other comments were more lighthearted. One user joked about the unusual curves, writing, “It has got the jumps all set up.” Another attempted to explain the optical effect, noting, “Based on the pic, it seems as though the road adjacent to the metro line is sloping downward, and it makes the metro line look like a steel curve!”

Another user added a humorous take on commuting, saying, “When you're tired of Bangalore life, riding in these metro‑coasters helps to keep your mind stable.”

Namma Metro is a rapid transit system operated by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Karnataka. The system currently runs over 96 kilometres and serves 83 stations across multiple corridors.
