After reports of Cognizant offering jobs for Rs 2.5 lakh per annum (LPA) in a mass hiring drive began to do rounds, a Bengaluru-based startup founder and CEO has shared an ad put up by a momo stall for a helper with a promised salary of Rs 25,000 per month which amounts to Rs 3 LPA.
"Cognizant is offering Rs. 2.52 LPA for engineers! Meanwhile, a helper job at a momo shop earns Rs 3 LPA!" Amit Misra, the founder and CEO of Dazeinfo, shared on X. "Need a helper and worker," the ad reads in Hindi. "Salary is Rs 25,000". Misra did not add details of where the ad was put up, his post received close to 9,000 likes and around 250 comments.

This comes at a time when the tech giant is being trolled on social media for offering the meagre salary to freshly-graduated engineers. "This is too low for skilled labour!" commented X user Aaraynsh (@aaraynsh). "Salary: 20k/month. Location: Pune, Bangalore, NCR. Basic expenses including rent: 10k, Food: 12k (400 per day), transportation: 3k-5k, for basic living it costs: 22k-25k." Another user Manas Muduli (@manas_muduli) wrote, "With this salary, they can’t even pay their house rent. And, (Narayana) Murthy sir says work for 70 hours per week."
Cognizant has not responded to the backlash yet.
