Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport has unveiled Gate Z, a new Gen Z–inspired social lounge, signaling how airports are reimagining themselves beyond transit points to lifestyle-driven spaces for modern travellers.

The lounge, launched at Kempegowda International Airport on January 21, reflects a shift in how passengers, especially younger, urban flyers, use airport dwell time. With longer layovers and early check-ins becoming a common scenario, airports are increasingly positioning lounges as places to work, socialise or simply slow down, rather than just wait.

Where is it in Bengaluru airport?

Located next to the 080 International Lounge in Terminal 2, Gate Z has been conceptualised as a shared social space rather than a traditional premium lounge. Airport authorities say the idea is not centred on age but on mindset, targeting travellers who see mobility as an extension of their lifestyle, not a disruption to it.

Drawing inspiration from the energy of a modern high street, the space features fluid layouts, curved seating and distinct social zones designed to balance interaction and privacy. Ambient lighting, interactive areas and flexible seating cater to passengers looking to work, unwind, connect with others or spend time alone before a flight.

Design plays a central role in the lounge’s identity. Global influences are blended with local elements across food, art and interiors, while a warm colour palette, marked by shades of cyan and burnt orange, aims to create a relaxed, contemporary atmosphere. Sustainability is another key focus, with the use of eco-conscious materials and energy-efficient lighting throughout space. This is also said to be India’s first GenZ themed gate, that is designed keeping the young generation in mind.

Not just the design but technology too is deeply embedded in experience. AI-enabled features support intuitive navigation, personalized services and smoother passenger movement, aligning with the expectations of digitally native travellers accustomed to seamless, app-driven interactions.
