A four-year-old boy who was inadvertently left asleep inside a hired cab in Hennur, Bengaluru, on Friday night was located and returned to his family within an hour following police intervention.
The incident took place on February 14 at approximately 8.26pm under the limits of the Hennur Police Station. The child had earlier accompanied his mother and five relatives to the ISKCON Temple, according to a report in The Hindu. During the return journey, he fell asleep in the rear seat of the cab that had been booked by his mother.
After arriving at their residence in Ponnappa Layout,Hennur, the family exited the vehicle without realising that the child remained inside. The cab subsequently drove away with the boy still asleep.
Upon discovering that their son was missing, the distressed parents contacted Namma 112 at 8.26pm and reported the situation. Namma 112 is an emergency response helpline that coordinates police, fire and medical assistance.

Following the alert, officers from the Bengaluru City Police reached the location within two minutes. The police team traced the vehicle registration details and obtained its live location. They then contacted the cab driver directly and instructed him to proceed to the family’s apartment with the child.
The driver confirmed that the boy was still inside the vehicle and complied with the directions. He returned to the residence and handed the child over to his parents within an hour of the initial report.
The episode later circulated widely on social media platforms. While several users commended the prompt response and coordination of the police authorities, others criticised the parents for failing to notice that their son had remained in the vehicle. Some individuals questioned the couple’s attentiveness and parental responsibility.
No injuries were reported, and the child was safely reunited with his family.
