An American influencer visiting Switzerland shared her shock and regret after taking a one-hour cab ride that ended with a bill of nearly Rs 30,000, drawing eyeballs online about the country’s famously high travel costs.

Content creator Gina Darling, shared her experience while travelling through the Zurich region of Switzerland. What was meant to be a quick and convenient cab journey turned into an expensive lesson. According to her post, the taxi fare came to USD 338 (around Rs 30,000) or 270 Swiss Francs for just one hour on the road.

In many parts of the world, long cab rides are common and relatively affordable. However, Switzerland operates very differently, something many tourists only realise after facing a steep bill.

Explaining her decision, the influencer said she chose a cab instead of public transport because she was travelling with heavy luggage and was short on time. In the caption, she explained, “Ended up being $338 USD lol yes I know trains and uber exist but I was in a hurry with a lot of heavy luggage. Great tap water tho lol.”

The video has attracted hundreds of comments, with most people saying they were not surprised by the cost. Instead, many questioned why anyone would take a taxi for such a long distance in Switzerland, a country known for its world-class public transport.

“One hour cab rides are not a normal thing outside America, Europe has trains probably would have been $20,” one person said. “Why would you call a cab? In Switzerland! Why?” another asked.

One more suggested, “Switzerland is so small. Should have taken the train.” Another user wrote, “Switzerland has a really good public transportation network, never take a cab here.”

Switzerland consistently ranks among the most expensive countries in the world. Some commenters under the video pointed out that visitors should always check prices before making everyday decisions in Switzerland. “Don‘t do anything you normally do without checking the price in Switzerland. Like, not even olive oil,” a user wrote.
