Nvidia's GPU dominance is about to take a hit with new reports surfacing that point to an E3 2019 Navi release. According to several sources, the Navi-based GPUs will be labelled as the RX 3000 series with the RX 3080 XT debuting as the flagship piece.
While AMD hasn't confirmed the launch date of the Navi cards, the company has confirmed shipping would begin in the coming months.
During the company's last earnings call, CEO, Dr Lisa Su said: "We are well-positioned to grow GPU revenue in the second quarter and through the second half of the year as we expect to introduce our first 7-nanometer Navi gaming GPUs in the third quarter."
Considering the 3rd generation Ryzen CPUs based on the 7-nm process node will arrive later this month at Computex 2019 during AMD's keynote; the Navi GPUs will likely arrive during E3 2019 in June.
There aren't a lot of details about the new Navi GPUs, despite continually being in the news since the first announcement in January. Navi 10 will be based on 7-nanometer process node and is rumoured to challenge Nvidia's mid-range GPUs.
The rumoured Radeon RX 3080 XT could debut as the first entrant in the Navi 10 GPU family. It is rumoured to be equipped with 8GB of GDDR6 VRAM, replacing the HBM2 memory on the Radeon VII. Other reports claim that the RX 3080 XT will feature a total of 56 compute units and a TDP of 195W.
However, the big question on every gamers mind is how Navi's price-to-performance adds up. As per AdoredTV, the RX 3080 XT will offer similar performance to Nvidia's RTX 2070 but will be priced significantly lower. This graphics card should start at approximately $330, about $170 less than the RTX 2070 and $20 less than the RTX 2060.
Whether or not AMD can truly deliver such impressive performance, while still undercutting Nvidia's RTX 2070 and 2060 in pricing is yet to be seen. But if the RX 3080 XT can achieve the rumoured price-to-performance, then AMD will likely have a massive winner on its hands.
