OpenAI's text-to-video AI model Sora has already set the internet on fire despite not being publicly available yet.
However, there are other companies besides OpenAI that are working on text-to-video models as well, including Meta and Google. Here are five alternatives to keep an eye on.
Phenaki
A text-to-video model developed by Google Research, Phenaki, unlike Sora can generate videos that can be several minutes long, whereas Sora is limited to one minute videos. Google trained the model on image-text pairs and video-text examples. You can check out the research paper here.
Make-A-Video
Developed by Meta AI, Make-A-Video uses images and descriptions to theorize the world in a virtual environment. Meta AI also used unlabeled videos to teach the model on 'how the world moves'. You can check out the research paper here.
Synthesia
Unlike the other two on the list, you can actually try out Synthesia right now. Users simply need to input simple text prompts for what they want to see, and can select from various templates and edit scripts to generate content. If you sign up for their basic $22 per month plan, you can generate up to 120 minutes of video per year.
Hour One
Hour One's text-to-video technology has already been used to generate personalized video messages on Cameo from none other than the popular Boss Baby character.
It also has the likes of HP, T-Mobile and AstraZeneca among its list of customers. You can try out Hour One here.
Colossyan
A text-to-video platform centered around workplace learning, the service lets users choose and customize their own AI presenters. The platform also translates content into other languages.
BMW, Paramount, Continental and BASF are among its clients. Check it out here.
