Is Google tweaking the design for Google Pixel Fold 2? New leaks suggest a shake-up

When unfolded, the Google Pixel Fold 2 phone measures 155.2 x 150.2 x 5.27 mm, making it squarer and slightly thinner than its predecessor.

The Google Pixel Fold, Google’s first ever smartphone debuted in the first half of 2023. A new leak is the newest a series of leaks that are seeing the pre-launch buzz and rumours building up. There are strong suggestions that the Google Pixel Fold 2 could debut in May 2024 when the Google I/O is likely to take place.

New camera island: A new set of renders made official by Oneleaks in association with Smartprix hints at a significant overhaul in the rear camera design. The renders reveal a charcoal grey device with a new camera island. The prominent visor gets a boot.

More screen real-estate: We see an inner screen with an under-display selfie cam at the top right corner. We are not fans of the thick bezels on the first-gen Google Pixel Fold, this design tweak allows for smaller bezels for the Pixel Fold 2. The cover display is now larger at 6.4-inches and the main display or the inner screen is likely to be 7.9-inch. That’s a bump up over the 5.8-inch outer screen and 7.6-inch main display on the 2023 Google Pixel Fold.

Squarer and thinner: When unfolded, the phone measures 155.2 x 150.2 x 5.27 mm, making it squarer and slightly thinner than its predecessor. When folded, it's 155.2 x 77.1 x 10.54 mm. It’s also likely to make the device thinner than the rumoured Samsung Galaxy Fold 6 based on the leaks so far.

New processor: A report in Android Authority hinted that the Pixel Fold 2 could opt for the upcoming Google Tensor G4 chipset. If this is true, then the Pixel Fold may not arrive in the first half of the year.

The Google Pixel Fold didn’t launch in India. It will be interesting to see if it’s successor will arrive in India in 2024.
