Netflix has announced that it will be creating a live-action film adaptation of the fan favourite game franchise, BioShock.
The streaming major has partnered with 2K Games and Take-Two Interactive for the project. So far, no cast or crew for the film have been announced, and there are no mentions of release date either. Vertigo Entertainment will produce the film, along with Take-Two Interactive.

In a press statement, Take-Two CEO, Strauss Zelnick, said the Netflix was "among the best and most forward-thinking storytellers in all of entertainment today" and that they were thrilled to partner with them.
“We are thrilled that they share our vision and commitment to the ‘BioShock’ franchise, which is beloved by millions of fans around the world," said Zelnick.
"2K’s Cloud Chamber studio is deep in active development on the next iteration of the series, and coupled with our partnership with Netflix, we remain highly confident that ‘BioShock’ will continue to captivate and engage audiences like never before,” he added.

The BioShock franchise started with the first game in 2007, and was praised at the time for its tense atmosphere, gameplay and story-telling.

A sequel was released in 2010, which isn't as fondly remembered despite being a good game and the franchise came to a close with the release of BioShock Infinite in 2013, that divided the fanbase. Across the games, re-releases, remastered versions and bundles, the franchise has sold more than 39 million copies worldwide.
According to Variety, there was a planned BioShock film in production at Universal in 2009, and Director Gore Verbinski (Pirates of The Caribbean, The Ring) was attached to the project, but it fell through.
