Cellulitis, a bacterial skin infection, can manifest with symptoms such as swelling, tenderness, pain, and skin dimpling. Commonly targeting the lower extremities, it can become severe if left untreated.
The counsel who mentioned the matter told the bench that the disease has spread among cattle and over 67,000 cows have died till date due to this. The bench, also comprising justices Ajay Rastogi and S R Bhat, said the matter would be listed for hearing on October 31.
Lumpy Skin Disease (LSD) is an emerging threat to livestock worldwide. The disease has affected over 20 lakh cattle in India and killed about 1 lakh of them. The outbreak has triggered devastating income losses for cattle farmers since the disease not only results in deaths but can also lead to decreased milk production, emaciated animals, and birth issues.
A total of 275 animals have recovered from the infection in Delhi so far, and the number of active cases stands at 296.

So far, the metropolis has not reported any confirmed case of lumpy skin disease which affects cattle like cows and buffaloes.
The police issued an order to this effect on September 14 and it will remain in force till October 13, an official said on Sunday. Anybody found violating the order will be penalised, he said.
A total of 5,51,120 livestock in 1,755 villages within five-kilometre radius of the infected area have been vaccinated, it said.
The lumpy skin disease has spread mainly in Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir.

Cases have been since found in 185 villages across Jalgaon, Ahmednagar, Akola, Dhule, Pune, Satara, Latur, Aurangabad, Beed, Buldhana, Amravati, Osmanabad, Kolhapur, Sangli, Yeotmal, Parbhani, Solapur and Washim districts.
He said at present, three lakh vaccine doses are available in the state, which will be used in two days. Apart from this, five lakh more doses will be available in the coming week.
Over the last few weeks, more than 3,000 cattle have died in Rajasthan and Gujarat and over 400 in Punjab due to the viral infection that causes prolonged morbidity in cattle.
The minister said the central and state governments are making serious efforts to prevent the spread of the disease in cattle and will soon be able to control it.
