Maruti Suzuki India on Friday reported its highest-ever monthly wholesales at 1,89,082 units in August.
While Tata Motors has been doing phenomenally well, competition has and always will be there from India’s biggest four-wheeler manufacturer, Maruti Suzuki. In the month of May, where the Tata Nexon managed to secure second place, in June it has been shifted down to fourth with the top-3 going to Maruti Suzuki.
Explaining the rationale behind the moving of Dzire production to Gujarat, Bhargava said the company keeps adjusting between different plants depending on the market demand of the different models.
MSI has shut production from May 1 till May 16 in order to divert oxygen from industrial use for medical purposes.
The Dzire is based on the company’s Swift hatchback, though the current-gen Dzire was launched a year ahead of the updated hatchback in 2017.
The company said the model currently has around 60 per cent market share in the compact sedan segment.
Dzire saw sales grow 20 percent to 2.4 lakh units last year, which is also when it received a full body overhaul.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno, which was earlier sitting at the 5th spot, has gained 3 spots to become the runner-up in the top 10 selling cars of July 2017 with 19,153 units sold, this is also the highest ever sales of Baleno in a single month.
At a base price tag of RS 5.45 lakh for the petrol variant, Maruti Suzuki already had 33,000 bookings for the new Dzire before the launch. In May, Dzire was at the 8th place in the most selling cars in India with 9413 units sold that month. Available in 14 variants, Dzire ranges from Rs 5.43 lakh up to Rs 9.39 lakh.
The country’s largest car maker Maruti Suzuki grew by 7 percent while Hyundai grew by 9 per cent and Tata Motors grew by a scorching 84 percent during last month.
The company's domestic sales stood at 1,20,735 units, up 11.7 percent from 1,08,115 units in February last year, MSI said in a statement.
