What IMD predicts for rain-soaked Gujarat: Intense downpours, red alerts, and more

A depression formed in the ocean is heading towards Gujarat and Maharashtra, expected to bring heavy rainfall to Gujarat on Sunday, ending the brief respite from recent downpours.

As of August 31, Gujarat has received 111% of its seasonal rainfall. The Kutch region has seen 179% of its average seasonal rainfall, followed by Saurashtra at over 124% and South Gujarat at more than 111%.

With the official death toll from five days of heavy rains through August 29 rising to 47, here's what the IMD predicts for rain-soaked Gujarat:

- Parts of Panchmahal, Dahod, and Chhota Udepur are expected to receive heavy rainfall on Sunday, while Narmada and Bharuch may experience heavy to very heavy rains.

- Most districts in South Gujarat and Bhavnagar are likely to see heavy rainfall.

- While light to moderate rainfall is forecast across much of the state, several districts could face heavy rains until September 6.

- An orange alert has been issued for Jamnagar, Porbandar, Dwarka, and Kutch, indicating the likelihood of heavy to very heavy rainfall.

- Junagadh, Rajkot, Morbi, Gir Somnath, and Diu are under a yellow warning due to expected heavy rains, while the rest of the state may experience light to moderate showers.

- An orange alert is issued for Vadodara and Chhota Udepur on September 2, forecasting heavy to very heavy rains.

- On September 3, the orange alert continues for Narmada and Bharuch, with a yellow warning in effect for Anand, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra Nagar Haveli, Amreli, and Bhavnagar.
