Udgir, one of the six assembly constituencies in Latur, is gearing up for a keen clash between the rival NCP factions in the November 20 Maharashtra elections.
The seat is reserved for Scheduled Caste (SC) candidates and is located in the Latur district. The constituency number is 237.
The seat has been held by Congress, BJP and NCP over the last four decades. Since 2004, it has oscillated between BJP and NCP.
In 2019, NCP (undivided) leader Sanjay Bansode won the seat and defeated his BJP rival Anil Sadashiv Kamble by a margin of over 20,000 votes. In 2014, Bansode was defeated by the BJP candidate.
He is now part of the Ajit Pawar faction.
In 2024, the constituency is witnessing a direct clash between NCP and NCP (SP). The BJP is not fielding its candidate since it is part of the Mahayuti alliance with Ajit Pawar's NCP.
